Its territory includes the parishes and missions located in the countries of Sierra Leone, Liberia, Guinea, Guinea Bissau, Gambia, Senegal, and Cape Verde.

History

The Diocese of Sierra Leone was established by Patriarchal and Synodal decree on October 7, 2010 when the Church of Alexandria elevated the Diocese of Ghana to an archdiocese with a new name, the Archdiocese of Accra, and established the Diocese of Sierra Leone under its omophorion. Despite being founded, the diocese remained without any elected bishop.

During the November 21, 2012 Fall meeting of the Holy Synod of the Church of Alexandria the Diocese of Sierra Leone was elevated to and renamed the Archdiocese of Guinea and the African Coast, receiving its first hierarch, the current Abp George.
