Anthony I (Zybelin) of Kazan

On [[October 10]], 1770, Fr. Anthony was [[consecration of a bishop|consecrated]] Bishop of Arkhangelsk in the [[Dormition Cathedral (Moscow Kremlin)|Dormition Cathedral]] in Moscow. On [[July 9]], 1773, Bp. Anthony was transferred to Nizhny Novgorod, where in 1779 he established a vicariate.
In 1780, in view of the advancing age and poor physical condition of Metr. [[Benjamin (Putsek-Grigorovich) of Kazan|Benjamin of Kazan]], Bp. Anthony was instructed to establish vicariates in Kazan and Simbirsk that later were combined in 1799 as the Eparchy of Kazan and Simbirsk. Then, on [[April 25]], 1782, he was transferred to the [[see]] of Kazan as an archbishop, succeeding Abp. Benjamin. Abp. Anthony led the Eparchy of Kazan only a few years before he requested retirement himself. After his request was approved, Abp. Anthony moved on [[March 5]], 1785 to the Macarius Monastery in Nizhny Novgorod, as its senior and, with a pension of 1000 rubles. He remained at the [[monastery]] until his repose on [[September 27]], 1797.
