On left side of the altar is placed the table of preparation ([[Proskomedia|Table of Oblation]] or [[Proskomedia|prothesis]]) upon which the sacramental offering of the Body and Blood of Christ is prepared in a service called the [[proskomedia]] before each liturgy.
