Alexios (Vrionis) of Nikaia

His Eminence Alexios (Vrionis) of Nikaia is the Metropolitan of the Metropolis of Nikaia, also the Metropolis of Nicea, under the jurisdiction of the Church of Greece. The metropolis is located in the suburbs of Athens and Piraeus, Greece.

Life

Metropolitan Alexios (Vrionis) was born in 1944 in Piraeus, Greece. After studying theology in Athens, Alexios was ordained deacon in 1967. In 1972, he was ordained a priest and served as registrar and secretary to S. E. Beneficence. Subsequently, Father Alexios was appointed Chancellor of the Archdiocese of Athens.

In 1995, Fr. Alexios was elected to the episcopate and was consecrated metropolitan of the Metropolis of Nikaia on January 29, 1995. Subsequently, Bishop Christianoupoleos (Petridis) was assigned as his assistant.
