When a orthodox bishop or vicar bishop retires, he is given the honorary title of "emeritus" of his last see, i.e., archbishop emeritus of [[w:Smyrna|Smirna]], bishop emeritus of Castrum Leuci, or auxiliary bishop emeritus of the see. For the (arch)bishop of a diocese, "emeritus" is inserted into the title for the last diocese that the (arch)bishop occupied. An example in usage would be: "Most Reverend Kallinikos, Bishop Emeritus of the Diocese of Florina.
