Abp. Paul was born Born in 1920 in Kafr-el-Zayat in , Egypt. He , the future Archbishop attended the Theological Faculty of the University of Athens. He In 1940, he was [[ordination|ordained]] to the [[diaconate]] , and this was followed in 1940. His 1952 by his ordination to the [[priest]]hood occurred in 1952. After serving as a [[parish]] priest, he was assigned as [[Vicar]] General in Harare, Zimbabwe between 1954 and 1968. In 1968, he was elevated to the episcopate and was elected [[Archbishop]] of Johannesburg and Pretoria. After the death of Pope and Patriarch [[Parthenios III]] in 1996, Abp. Paul was elected to the position of Deputy (Vicar) of the throne.

On [[May 18]], 2008, His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa awarded Abp. Paul the Highest Medal of the Archangel at the Church of Ss Constantine and Helen in Johannesburg. The medal is the highest award of the ancient Patriarchate. In addition to his native Greek, His Eminence spoke Arabic, English, and French.
