The '''Holy Archdiocese of Antananarivo and Northern Madagascar and Indian Islands''' is a [[diocese]] under the [[jurisdiction]] of the Greek Orthodox [[Church of Alexandria|Patriarchate of Alexandria]] and All Africa. Its territory includes the [[parish]]es and missions located in the nation of [[Madagascar]] and the Islands of Mauritius, Reunion, Comores, and Maillot.
Prior to the formation of the Diocese of Madagascar, the territory of the diocese was part of the [[Archdiocese of Zimbabwe]]. On [[September 23]], 1997, the '''Diocese of Madagascar''' was established by Patriarchal and Synodal decree. During the [[November 21]], 2012 Fall meeting of the Holy Synod of the Church of Alexandria the see of Madagascar was elevated to archdiocese under the name '''Archdiocese of Madagascar and Indian Islands'''. On [[November 26]], 2018, the Holy Synod established the [[Diocese of Toliara]] in Southern Madagascar. On [[October 9]], 2019, the archdiocese was renamed to '''Archdiocese of Antananarivo and Northern Madagascar and Indian Islands'''received its current name.
On [[February 16]], 2008, His Beatitude [[Theodoros II (Choreftakis) of Alexandria|Theodoros II]] inaugurated a new [[seminary]] near the valley of Alasora in Madagascar that was financed by the faithful in Australia, adding a new institution to those seminaries in Alexandria, Nairobi, and Kinshasa.
