==Life==

~~Metr. Maximos~~ George Xydas was born in 1942 on Prigkipos island, one of the Princes' Islands of the Sea of Marmara. After having studied theology, he entered the [[Holy Orders]], in 1964, when he was [[ordination|ordained]] a [[deacon]] and given the name Maximos. Dcn. Maximos was ordained a [[priest]] in 1967.

Father Maximos was elected to the [[episcopate]] and [[consecration of a bishop|consecrated]] metropolitan of the Metropolis of Serres and Nigrita in 1984. Metr, Maximos reposed on [[March 5]], 2003 and was succeeded by Metr.
