The claim that Justinian banned the use of the Hebrew language in Jewish worship is false. His 146th Novel concerning the Jews states that any language can be used. I do not know though if he banned the Shema but I think this is incorrect as well. His 146th novel mentions nothing of the sort. If someone cannot provide a primary source from the ''Corpus Juris Civilis'' to substantiate this it should be removed from the article. You can read the code and the 146th Novel for free here:
