His Eminence '''Panteleimon (Chrysofakis) of Thessalonica''' was the Metropolitan of [[Thessalonica]] that is under the [[jurisdiction]] of the [[Church of Constantinople]] but administered, under agreement with the Ecumenical Patriarchate, by the [[Church of Greece]]. Metr. Panteleimon led the New Lands [[Metropolis of Thessalonica]] from 1974 to 2003.

==Life==
Nicholas Chrysophakis was born in 1925 in Athens, Greece. His education in theology included postgraduate studies at the Roman Catholic Institute in Paris, France and at the University of Sorbonne. Entering the [[Holy Orders]], he was [[ordination|ordained]] a [[deacon]] in 1950, receiving the name Panteleimon, and a [[priest]] in 1951.

In 1965, Father Panteleimon was elected to the [[episcopate]] by the [[Synod of Bishops]] of the Church of Greece and was [[consecration of a bishop|consecrated]] Bishop of the [[Metropolis of Samos and Ikaria]]. In 1974, he was transferred to the [[see]] of the Metropolis of Thessalonica as Metropolitan of Thessalonica.

He was the writer of many books. In 1996, the Department of Theology of the University of Thessalonica awarded him an honorary Doctor's degree. Metr. Panteleimon reposed on [[July 9]], 2003.
