His Beatitude '''Hierotheus of Jerusalem''' was the Patriarch of Jerusalem of the [[Church of Jerusalem]] from 1875 to 1882.

Hierotheus was elected [[patriarch]] of Jerusalem with the sponsorship of Imperial Russia. In Patr, Hierotheus' time, the patriarch of Constantinople was under pressure from the Bulgarians, supported by Russia, to allow the Bulgarian speaking Orthodox the independence of having Bulgarian speaking [[clergy]] and the use of [Church Slavonic|Slavonic]] in their services. Hierotheus, however, on becoming patriarch of Jerusalem surprised everyone by supporting the [[Phanar]] and opposing the Bulgarian's desires.

Patr. Hierotheus reposed in 1882. His death set up circumstances that involved the selection among three candidates as his [[Nicodemus of Jerusalem|successor]], as Russia and the Phanar competed in influencing the Turkish Sultan's decision.
