Athanasios Lenis was born in 1938. Upon his entering the [[Holy Orders]] Athanasios was given the name Ambrose. He served as [[dean]] of the religious office of the Greek police and as chief secretary of the [[Holy Synod]] before his election in 1976 to the [[episcopate]] as a titular [[bishop]]. He was [[consecration of a bishop|consecrated]] on [[August 17]], 1976.<ref>[ ORI: Current Hierarchs of the Church of Greece: Ambrose Metropolitan of Kalavryta and Aigialeia/]</ref>. Bishop Ambrose was elected Metropolitan of Kalavryta and Aigialeia and [[enthronement|enthroned]] in 1978.
In August 1989, Metr. Ambrose initiated the establishment of the Kallimanoupouleio Ecclesiastical Ministry Center (KEDIK) in Kalavryta to provide for the special needs of elderly and chronically-ill. In 2000, Metr. Ambrose also initiated the establishment of the Kalavryta department of the School of Byzantine Music in the town of Aigio at the Service Center of the Kallimanopouleio Institute. []
