Welcome to OrthodoxWiki!

Hello, Pistevo/Archive 05, and welcome to OrthodoxWiki!

Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Please note that OrthodoxWiki is always in development, so not everything works quite right yet. You can help, though!

OrthodoxWiki is a community-edited encyclopedia of Orthodox Christianity. Articles are created and edited by our members, and so everything that we do here is subject to review and revision. The result is a true consensus product, with every interested editor contributing his own knowledge and writing skills. As such, when you feel that criticism of an article is warranted, we encourage you to join in and fix it! Don't worry about breaking anything or doing something wrong—the other editors here are happy to jump in and help you learn.

Recent episcopal name changes

I've noticed that you've moved several Australian bishops' articles recently. I'm wondering about the naming conventions—our custom thus far has not been to include the "full" title of each bishop in the article name, but rather to include only the primary see or sees. Thus, instead of "of Moscow and All Russia," we'd use just "of Moscow." Are these bishops' sees "of Australia," "of Sydney," or something else? Linking to categories

One trick I thought you might like to know: You can link to categories without placing the article itself in the category by putting a ":" before the string within the double brackets, like this: :Category:Saints yields Category:Saints. (I noticed you had categories linked on your userpage as one would do external links.) ——Fr. Andrew talk contribs (THINK!) 09:12, 13 Jul 2005 (EDT)

Sysop

Dear Pistevo,

Thanks for all your work! It looks great.

I hope you don't mind, but I've knighted you a sysop. This will allow you some more flexibility in managing pages. AYour mission, should you choose to accept it, will also involve a slight bit of responsbility (don't worry) in keeping an eye on how things are going at OrthodoxWiki as a whole and helping to resolve any problems that arise. Please read OrthodoxWiki:Administrators when you get a chance.

If you send me your preferred email I can add you to the Yahoo group if you're interested. Mainly, this group serves to alert me of technical problems with the board and is also a place to discuss the occasional administrative issues that come up in way that allows a little more privacy than an owiki page!

Thanks again, Fr. John

Diocese of Australia and New Zealand (ROCOR)

Hello! Congratulations on your new sysop status. I was honored to be given the status recently.

This is only my opinion, so take it with a grain of salt. Instead of creating a heading like History and writing coming soon! you may want to consider using the In Progress template.

It works like this, place this in the article you are actively working on

If you think it will be a while before you get to the article, you might want to leave out the heading altogether. They will naturally appear as the article fills out.

Thanks for your response. Using the In Progess template is definetely well-suited for short-term use (although I have violated this with the Introduction to Orthodox Christianity series.)
While we are at it, do you chat?

I hope you don't mind that...

...I added Image:Australasia.gif to Template:Orthodoxyinaustralasia and that I put Orthodoxy in Australasia as this week's feature. Both seemed like a good idea. ——Fr. Andrew talk contribs (THINK!) 10:05, 16 Jul 2005 (EDT)

JP

Heheheh.  :)

See if you can find out this fellow's surname, if only so we can continue my slavish dedication to our naming conventions. ——Fr. Andrew talk contribs (THINK!) 09:05, 22 Aug 2005 (EDT)

News coverage & name

It seems to be expanding pretty rapidly. Take a look: http://news.google.com/news?hl=en&ned=&ie=UTF-8&q=patriarch&btnG=Search+News

Additionally, the news coverage seems to be using multiple spellings of the name, so I figured we could just use the most common English version. ——Fr. Andrew talk contribs (THINK!) 09:30, 22 Aug 2005 (EDT)

Away message

I think you're back, but your user page doesn't. :) —magda (talk) 11:58, 23 Aug 2005 (EDT)

Protection

Thank you for your efforts! I am very much appreciative. Poor kid; doesn't he have anything better to do on the weekend? —magda (talk) 12:53, 28 Aug 2005 (EDT)

Suggestion

Hi Pistevo,

Just wanted to suggest that we hold off on creating too many bishop's pages without bios. It doesn't look very good, e.g., if someone hits "Random Page" and gets something with no text. Thanks! Fr. John

Thanks for your note. Random pages do include stubs, but I'm thankful that we have so many pages you haven't seen them yet! Fr. John

OrthodoxWiki and WikiKto

Hi,

I would have wished to know if a partnership could be found between OrthoxWiki and WikiKto, a free catholic encyclopedia. To mean, this exchange, I indicated on the banner page of WikiKto, a bond towards your encyclopedia. If you agree, want to mean it to me in my page : [1]

Tanks, David Dias

Ezekiel of Dervis

I am horribly embarrassed. I had read "Born in 1938 in Akrita Kilkis of Macedonia." as "Born in 1938 as Akrita Kilkis of Macedonia." from his biography. —magda (talk) 10:47, 28 Sep 2005 (EDT)
