Anyway, I'm going to try to ignore the discussions about the discussion, since that doesn't seem to go much of anywhere.  Do with that what you like, but know that you can never work on anything on the wiki without any "interference."  This isn't that kind of project.  If that's what you want, then I encourage you to get your own serve and set up your own wiki that only you have access to.  &mdash;[[User:ASDamick|<font size="3.5" color="green" face="Adobe Garamond Pro, Garamond, Georgia, Times New Roman">Fr. Collapsing templates

I'm honestly not really sure how to make a template collapse, and I also don't know whether the right modules are installed on OrthodoxWiki in order to make that happen, either. You may be able to find some tutorials on the MediaWiki website or perhaps Wikipedia. If you need something installed to make it work, FrJohn is the only one who can do it. —Fr. Andrew talk contribs (THINK!) 13:04, June 12, 2008 (UTC)

#if, etc.

I honestly don't have any knowledge or experience in template programming. If it ever looks like I've done it, it's just copied from somewhere else!  :) —Fr. Andrew talk contribs (THINK!) 14:12, June 16, 2008 (UTC)

In my opinion, the master (mistress!) of categorization is Magda. —Fr. Andrew talk contribs (THINK!) 23:20, June 16, 2008 (UTC)

Works lists

Please don't remove works lists from articles, like you did with John of Damascus. OrthodoxSource is not part of OrthodoxWiki, so there's not a problem with duplicating information like this. —Fr. Andrew talk contribs (THINK!) 02:28, June 19, 2008 (UTC)

OSource

Forgive me, but I think you're misunderstanding the purpose of OrthodoxSource. It's to be a repository for documents and other content (e.g., audio files, full texts of articles, etc.). It's not for synopses of DVDs, etc. There first needs to be a proposed category structure before some of the fancy template programming that you're working on will be useful. Gotta build the foundation before installing the satellite dish!  :)

I honestly am having a hard time figuring out where you're going with what you're doing there. The reason why that can be unhelpful is that it makes it hard to collaborate, which doesn't help the whole wiki enterprise.

I've reverted the Main page there back to FrJohn's last version, which has a lot of good suggestions for what's appropriate there.

I'm also adding a note here to OrthodoxWiki:Administrators to invite admins to OSource to work together on a category structure and basic presentation which would make OSource work well as a complement to OrthodoxWiki.

(This is an honest, good-faith comment. Please don't take it as an attack. It's not.) —Fr. Andrew talk contribs (THINK!) 02:49, June 19, 2008 (UTC)

I think you think I am an idiot. I DO UNDERSTAND what OrthodoxSource is about, my inspiration has been WikiSource so your comments above about 'structure' are unfair and unfounded ...and reverting back to the old Front page is not fair since I had NOT removed any of Father John's categories. I dont wish to contribute to this site if you are constantly going to degrade me ... Vasiliki 03:05, June 19, 2008 (UTC)
I don't think you're an idiot. You respond in this way nearly every time anyone makes a suggestion or modification to your approach. It really isn't helpful. Again, I don't think you're an idiot, but I do think that your approach could use some refining and direction and would definitely benefit from collaboration.
As to why I reverted the main page on OS, there was really no need to create a "Main page" template to act as a container for other templates, since (like here) the Main page itself can simply act that way. It created an unnecessary extra layer.
I really wish that you wouldn't respond so often as though you're being insulted and attacked. You're really not. We're just trying to come up with something that works and is consistent with what we've been doing. —Fr. Andrew talk contribs (THINK!) 03:14, June 19, 2008 (UTC)
Yes, I am really upset with you today! You are the Sysop of Syops but what you do ... is that you DELETE first and talk later ... What if you deleted something good? Which you did. You deleted the entire FORMAT of the OS Main Page without any consideration for the time and effort that went into it. Another thing, just because you dont understand why I put a template inside the Main Page does not make it wrong and there could be a logical purpose for it.
Second, what I am in 'the process' of setting up DOES work ...since it has been tried and tested on WikiSource! How dare you presume that the structure I am putting in place is 'against' WikiGroup principles when it is a direct "method" from the Wiki group in the first instance! Just because you cant see it coming together yet does not make it wrong ... grrr ...you really just put a WHOLE WEEKs worth of work and effort and thinking down the drain without even asking me first! "Vicki, I dont like what you are doing ...and I am going to give you 24 hours to explain before I delete it!" something like that? I mean, no one else has been in there for months ...its an invisible site at the moment ...why not let me finish what i was starting! Vasiliki 03:34, June 19, 2008 (UTC)

A number of remarks

Vasiliki, I have honestly come to the conclusion that you will think I am attacking you no matter what I say or do. I'm not really sure why, and I won't speculate as to your motives, personality, etc. I have tried very much to be patient with you and will continue to do so, but I do hope that eventually you will realize that you're not being attacked or threatened. I'm not sure what else to do beyond that.

Believe me, though, that I am quite familiar with "looking at the glass" from multiple sides, and I act based on what I think works best, based on years of experience. If I genuinely wanted simply to attack people, I could (and I would hope that FrJohn would nail me should I do that). (I actually used to make something of a hobby out of it when I was in university many years ago, but I left that behind.)

So believe me when I tell you that when I delete or alter something without making a proposal to do so first, it's not to annoy you (that could be done much more easily); it's because I think it's patently obvious that it needed to be done, most often because (especially in your case) it either breaks with existing conventions or duplicates something that's already been done.

—Fr. Andrew talk contribs (THINK!) 04:28, June 19, 2008 (UTC)

As I've said before:
  • I don't think you're stupid, nor have I ever even suggested that you were.
  • Your contributions to the wiki have been valuable.
Beyond that, I really am not sure what else to say. —Fr. Andrew talk contribs (THINK!) 05:03, June 19, 2008 (UTC)
