greetings...hoping you can assist me with tracking down a possible ? Desert fathers story i read many eons ago. A monk was endeavoring to attain spiritual perfection by attaining all ? i think it was 7 virtues....he only needed one or two to reach that level. he decides he cannot possibly progress while at the monastery as he felt the other monks would hinder him....so he leaves and sets out to try and obtain those last virtues by mixing with more profound and spiritual persons.

by doing so he's lost the virtue of humility...and his travels and experiences result in him losing the others....finally void, he comes to his senses and returns to the monastery....sounds like a prodigal son scenario

does anyone know the source of this story or where i could obtain a copy of it? many thanks in advance marie
