With regards to the martyrdom of St. John the New, the official life of the saint I have says that he was actually beheaded by a 'fanatical Jew'. I've left this out because I'm not sure it's totally relevant and in this day and age might be considered to be anti-Semitic (assuming the information is correct, of course, it's nothing of the sort, but I'd rather not offend people). If it's in the traditional vita, I think it's a detail which should probably go in. Perhaps a way to de-emphasize it is to place it as a quotation in the article. --Rdr. Andrew 05:59, 22 Mar 2005 (CST)
