Symeon means one who hears or God hears.
There are several saints named Symeon or Simeon, including the following:
- Simeon the God-receiver was a prophet who was present when Jesus was brought into the temple as an infant (celebrated as the feast of the Presentation), and is credited with the Prayer of St. Simeon or Nunc Dimittis.
- Symeon the Stylite (c. 390-459) was the first saint to live ascetically on a pillar, or style.
- Symeon the New Theologian (949–1022) is well-known for his theological works.
