When a orthodox bishop or vicar bishop retires, he is given the honorary title of "emeritus" of his last see, i.e., archbishop emeritus of Smirna, bishop emeritus of Castrum Leuci, or auxiliary bishop emeritus of the see. For the (arch)bishop of a diocese, "emeritus" is inserted into the title for the last diocese that the (arch)bishop occupied. An example in usage would be: "Most Reverend Kallinikos, Bishop Emeritus of the Diocese of Florina.
