His Holiness Parthenius I of Constantinople was the Patriarch of the Church of Constantinople from 1639 to 1644. Patr. Parthenius was patriarch during a period of frequent changes of the occupant of the cathedra of Constantinople under the Ottoman Sultan. As compared to other patriarchs of the time, he served only one period.

Life

Little is known of the life of Patr. Parthenius. In a dispute with Patr. Nikiphoros of Alexandria, Parthenius sided with the hierarchs of the Church of Sinai by granting them permission to perform religious services at the Sinai Dependency in Cairo when Patr. Nikiphoros was away from Alexandria in Moldovlachia. While the grant of permission was revoked after Nikiphoros returned to Alexandria, the tensions over this issue continued between the two Churches.
