Elder Paisios (Eznepidis) was a very well-known monk on Mt Athos.

Timeline

  • 1924 Jul 25 - Arsenios Eznepidis born in Pharasa, Cappadocia.
  • 1924 - Shortly before Eznepidis family left for Greece in the population exchange, St Arsenios the Cappadocian (also St Arsenios the Pharasiot) baptised him, naming the child after himself and foretelling Arsenios' monastic future.
Eznepidis family settles in Konitsa, Epirus. Arsenios resides here in his childhood and young adult years. After intermediate public school, he learns carpentry.
  • 1945-49 - Served for 3.5 years as radio operator during civil war, noted for his bravery, self-sacrifice and moral righteousness. After this, he became a monk, on Mt Athos, then in the Holy Monastery of Stomio, Konitsa, then on Mt Sinai, then again on Mt Athos, attempting to live in obscurity but always consoling the multitudes who came to him.
  • 1967-94 - Founder and spiritual father of St John the Theologian Monastery in Souroti, Thessaloniki, Greece. Elder Paisios placed the relics of St Arsenios in this monastery.
  • 1994 Jul 12 - Elder Paisios reposed at the Monastery of St John the Theologian, and was buried next to the church of St Arsenios.
