His Eminence, the Most Reverend Nicholas of Ermoupolis is Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Ermoupolis, part of the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Alexandria and All Africa.

Life

The future Archbishop Nicholas was born in Cairo, Egypt on March 20, 1944. His initial education was as an engineer, receiving, in 1974, a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Heluan University in Cairo. After having entered the ranks of the clergy he received a degree in Theology from the St. John of Damascus Institute of Theology in Tripoli, Lebanon in 1988.

He was ordained a deacon in 1980, and then a priest in 1983. In 1992, Fr. Nicholas was elevated to the rank of archimandrite and then elected Archbishop of Ermoupolis later in 1992. After his consecration he was appointed Patriarchal vicar for Arab-speaking Orthodox Christians in Egypt.
