Nicholas (Gibbes)

Archimandrite Nicholas (Gibbes) was born Charles Sydney Gibbes, an Englishman who taught the Tsarevich St. Alexis English in St. Petersburg, where he was moved by the piety and love of the Romanov family. After the martyrdom Romanov family, Gibbes escaped through Siberia, into China, then the Phillipines and finally back to England via Jerusalem. When he returned to England he converted to Orthodox Christianity, was tonsured a monk then ordained to the priesthood, and spent the rest of his years in faithful service to the Church.
