Elder Nektarios (Marmarinos) is the founder of the monastery of St. Patapios located at Loutraki, Greece, a spa city near Corinth. He is noted for his missionary activities. He also served as chancellor of the Metropolis of Corinth.

Life

Kyriakos Marmarinos was born on November 3, 1921 in Aegina on the island of Aegina, near Athens. The spiritual child of St. Hieronymus of Aegina, he was educated in and graduated from the seminary in Corinth. Choosing a monastic life, Kyriakos was ordained a deacon by Bishop Michael of Corinth in the Church of Virgin Mary in the neighborhood Synoikismos (meaning settlement) of Corinth, with the name Nektarios. On November 8, 1945, after he had been ordained a priest, he was raised to the dignity of archimandrite in the Church of St. Paul in Corinth.

In 1952, he founded the Monastery of St. Patapios in Loutraki, Greece at the site of the cave where relics of St. Patapios had been found. In 1977, he founded the Monastery of St. Paul in Mount Gerania which was subsequently abandoned. He also founded, near Loutraki, the monastery of St. Nickolaos o Neos for men at Malagari in Perachora. More recently he founded the male monastery of the three hierarchs in Perachora.

He served as chancellor of the Metropolis of Corinth. In 2006, he was honored by the City of Corinth with the golden key of the city and also honored by the Archbishop of Athens and All Greece Christodoulos with the gold medal for his missionary work. Elder Nektarios has taught, since 1940, Sunday school every Sunday afternoon at the Cultural Center of the Church of Virgin Mary at Synoikismos in Corinth.

In addition to teaching Sunday school at Synoikismos, Elder Nektarios travels, at an advanced age, across the villages and towns of the province of Corinthia teaching the Word of the Gospel. Additionally, he visits every Friday morning the Monastery of St. Patapios in Loutraki, directing the souls of the nuns toward Salvation. Frequently, he also preaches at the male monastery of the Three Hierarchs in Perachora. His missionary efforts are well known and according to nun Patapia he has contributed greatly to the Monastery of St. Patapios that he founded.
