Maximus I of Pec
Hiss Holines Maksim (Skopljanac) was Serbian Patriarch from 1655 to 1672. Maksim was born in Skoplje, so he was called Skopljanac(Man from Skoplje.) He Metropolitan of Ras and Novi Pazar befor he was elected on throne of Saint Sava. When Patriarch Gavrilo wrote to Serbia for the metropolitans to elect a new Patriarch, Metropolitans elected Maksim for New Patriarch. He was well educated man and he was book colector. Patriarch also was donating books to monasteries. He like other Patriarchs was often in wists to his flock. He wisited Šišatovac Monastery 1666, on Pascha 1671 he visited Nikolje Kablarsko. Church of Saint Nicholas in Peć Monastery was painted by his efforts. Patriarch Maksim Also founded town of Peć 1674. He visited Valachia 1661 to ask for material support. He also must to deal with agresive Roman Catholic proselitism. He sufferd stroke 1669. When Patriarch Maksim suffered a stroke, archimandrite of Peć Monastery Arsenije was elected for Metropolitan of Hvosno and coadjutor of the Patriarch. When it was clear that patriarch's condition would not improve Arsenije was elected Patriarch.
Patriarch Maksim died October 29, 1680 in Peć Monastery.
