Maximos (Xydas) of Serres

His Eminence Maximos (Xydas) of Serres and Nigrita was the Metropolitan of the Metropolis of Serres and Nigrita under the administration of the Church of Greece. The Metropolis of Serres and Nigrita is a metropolis in the New Lands of Greece, under the jurisdiction of the Ecumenical Patriarchate. [1]. Metr. Maximos was the ruling hierarch of the metropolis from 1984 to 2003.

Life

Metr. Maximos was born in 1942 on Prigkipos island, one of the Princes' Islands of the Sea of Marmara. After having studied theology, he entered the Holy Orders, in 1964, when he was ordained a deacon and given the name Maximos. Dcn. Maximos was ordained a priest in 1967.

Father Maximos was elected to the episcopate and consecrated metropolitan of the Metropolis of Serres and Nigrita in 1984. Metr, Maximos reposed on March 5, 2003 and was succeeded by Metr. Theologos (Apostolidis).[1]
