During January 1994, whilst on pilgrimage in Serbia, Fr Joachim went from Decani Monastery to Black River Monastery and, through the intercessions of St Peter of Korisha, was relieved of his migranes.
Before his reception into ROCOR, Hmk Joachim was at the former Protection of the Theotokos Skete, Tallong, NSW, under the omophorion of the Serbian Orthodox Diocese of Australia and New Zealand (Patriarchal).
In 1999 Hieromonk Joachim received a canonical release from the Serbian Orthodox Church to the ROCOR. He was invited by the current diocesan bishop, Archbishop Hilarion, to rebuild the Kentlyn Skete and restore coenobitic monastic life, as well as to provide a base for missionary work amongst anglophonic Australians.
During the early part of the 2000s, Hmk Joachim, with a group of volunteers, put in four and a half years of work to clear the skete of rubbish and undergrowth, and to make buildings secure, habitable and weatherproof. Another task has been to clear the cave of the former superior, Fr Guri (Demidov), of the dirt and rubbish accumulated since his departure, and to make it stable. A floor has been laid, the walls strengthened, and icons and a vigil lamp have been installed. Sanctified by Fr Guri, the first chapel of the Skete has become a place of pilgrimage.
To accomplish the task set for Hmk Joachim, the Skete has obtained the blessing of Abbess Evpraxia to use the old monastery Church of All Saints in the neighbouring Our Lady of Kazan Monastery. A small, multinational congregation has been built up, and the Divine Liturgy is served in English on Sundays and major feast days. During the week, the Skete has prayer according to the Hours of the Church.
During late October to early November 2004, Hmk Joachim concelebrated with Patriarch Pavle of Serbia in Canberra, during the Patriarch's visit to Australia.
