This article is about the message of good news that is salvation. For information about the Scriptural texts with this name, see Gospels.

The gospel (in Greek, is evangelion which, means the "glad tidings" or the "good news") is the message of Christ. The life of the Church is centered in this gospel. It is about the living fulfillment of the law and the prophets, Christ, who abides perpetually in the midst of His People, the Church, through the presence of the Holy Spirit. This is symbolized by the book of the Gospels being perpetually enthroned upon the altar tables in Orthodox Church buildings. The message was preached by the Church, right from the day of Pentecost, even before it were written down by the disciples of Christ.
