His Grace Bishop Gennadius (Gogolev) of Kaskelen is an auxiliary bishop of the Eparchy of Astana and Almaty, one of the constituent dioceses of the Russian Orthodox Church's Metropolia of Kazakhstan.

Life

Bishop Gennadius was born Mikhail Borisovich Gogolev on March 10, 1967 in Leningrad, USSR. After serving in the Armed Forces of the USSR in 1986, Mikhail entered the St. Petersburg Theological Seminary in 1987, graduating with top honors in 1990 and being ordained to the priesthood. Fr. Mikhail promptly entered the St. Petersburg Theological Academy, graduating in 1994.

In 1995, Fr. Mikhail was tonsured a monk with the name Gennadius in honor of St. Gennadius of Kostroma. The same year Fr. Gennadius was appointed rector of the Kostroma Theological School and later rector of a parish church in Kostroma. In 1998 Igumen Gennadius was elevated to the rank of archimandrite.

In April 2010, Fr. Gennadius was transferred to the Eparchy of Astana. A month later he was elected Bishop of Kaskelen by the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church. On October 10, 2010 Archimandrite Gennadius was consecrated Bishop of Kaskelen by Patriarch Cyril of Moscow and All Rus'.
