Francis of Assisi

Francis of Assisi was a monastic and preacher of the Roman Catholic Church of the late twelfth and early thirteenth centuries. He is noted for the founding of the Franciscan Order for men and for assisting in the establishment of the Order of St. Clare for women and the lay Order of St. Francis. He was canonized a saint of the Roman Catholic Church by Pope Gregory IX on July 16, 1228.
