His Grace Eutychus (Evtikhy, secular name Ivan Timofeyevich Kurochkin, Иван Тимофеевич Курочкин) is the Bishop of Domodedovo, vicar of the Moscow diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church.

Biography

Ivan Kurochkin was born in March 6, 1955 in Ishim, USSR. He was baptized at St. Nicholas Church in Ishim.

After finishing school, he completed his compulsory military service. In 1977, he was tonsured subdeacon by Bp. Maxim (Krokha) of the Moscow Patriarchate in Omsk. His spiritual fathers were Schemamonk Prochor, and Metropolitan Zinovi (Mazhuga) of Tsitsikar (Georgia). Between 1978 and 1982, he studied at the Moscow Theological Seminary.

In 1982, Ivan was tonsured to the small schema. He was ordained a deacon and then a priest by Bp. Maxim in Omsk. In 1983, he was elevated to Igumen and was appointed the confessor of the Omsk-Tiumen Diocese. There, Fr. Evtikhy served in a newly opened parish in Shablinkin, near Ishim.

In 1989, together with some ten other priests of the diocese, he petitioned for reception into the Russian Orthodox Church Outside Russia. Metroplitan Vitaly (Ustinov) received him on the third day of Pentecost in 1990. In 1992, he organized the opening of the Cathedral of the Theophany in Ishim, which he labored to build. On July 13, 1990 Igumen Eutyches was prohibited from serving by Bp. Anthony of Tobolsk and Tyumen.

In January 1994, he was elevated to archimandrite in ROCOR.

At the ROCOR Sobor of Bishops following the glorification of Saint John of Shanghai and San Francisco, Fr. Evtikhy delivered a report on church life in Ishim. The same Council nominated him to the episcopate as Bishop of Ishim and Siberia. Bp. Evtikhy was consecrated on 10/23 July 1994, presided over by Metr. Vitaly.

In the late 1990s, Bp. Evtikhy was out spoken against reconciliation with the Moscow Patriarchate, but later, in 2002, he upheld the decision of the ROCOR Synod of Bishops that was aimed at expanding the dialogue for reconciliation with the Russian Orthodox Church. In 2003, he participated in the negotiations with the ROC. He also became a supporter of the restoration of full communion between ROCOR and the Moscow Patriarchate. On December 22, 2006, Abp. Anthony of Tobolsk and Tyumen, who had prohibited Fr. Eutychy from serving in 1990, released him from those sanctions.

Following the restoration of communion between ROCOR and the Church of Russia the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church on May 16, 2007 appointed Bp. Evtikhy Bishop of Domodedovo, a vicar of the Moscow diocese, and entrusted him with temporary pastoral care of the former parishes of the ROCOR in Russia for five years in accordance with the Act of Canonical Communion.

Vladika Evtikhy is noted for his endless labors towards building up the spiritual life of his flock, his building projects, and for his work with prisoners.
