His Eminence Emmanuel (Sigalas) of Polyani and Kilkis is the Metropolitan of the Metropolis of Polyani and Kilkis under the administration of the Church of Greece. The Metropolis of Polyani and Kilkis is a metropolis in the New Lands of Greece, under the jurisdiction of the Ecumenical Patriarchate. [1]. Metr. Emmanuel has been the ruling hierarch of the metropolis since 2009.

Life

Metropolitan Emmanuel (Sigalas) was born in 1953 on the island of Syros in the Cyclades. After completing his basic education he entered the Theological School of Aristotle University of Thessalonica from which he graduated in 1976. He then entered graduate school.

In 1980, he entered the Holy Orders, being ordained deacon with the name Emmanuel, followed during the same year by his ordination to the priesthood by Bishop Gabriel of Thera, Amorgos and the Isles. Fr. Emmanuel remained as a preacher and teacher with the Metropolis of Thera, Amorgos and the Isles until August 1983 when he transferred to the Metropolis of Thebes as preacher and professor in the schools of the historic city of Thespies (ancient Thespiae) in central Greece. In 1986, Fr. Emmanuel was promoted to a position of Director of Schools of Thespies. In 1992, he was appointed Director of the Thespies High School, a position which he served for 17 years.

On October 12, 2009, Fr. Emmanuel was elected to the episcopate by the Holy Synod of Bishops of the Church of Greece. On October 17, 2009, he was consecrated bishop by Archbishop Ieronymos II of Athens and All Greece, assisted by 15 bishops, in the Church of the patron saint of Athens, St. Dionysius the Areopagite. He was enthroned at his cathedra in Kilkis as Metropolitan of Polyani and Kilkis, on November 11, 2009, by Archbishop Ieronymos II and assisting hierarchs.
