History

The diocese was formed from the seven regions of the Archdiocese at the time in 2003 after the Patriarchate of Antioch granted “Self-Rule” for the Archdiocese in response to the petition in 2001 for “Self-Rule” status by the ruling hierarch Metr. Philip and the General Assembly of the Archdiocese.

Parishes and Monasteries

The diocese includes fifteen parishes and missions in portions of the states of New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Maryland and the District of Columbia.[[1]] While the parishes in the diocese are principally eastern rite, the diocese does have western rite parishes. For Parish Life conferences and other diocesan activities, the New York/Washington diocese joins with the parishes of the Diocese of Charleston, Oakland and the Mid-Atlantic.
