The Diocese of Chicago and Mid-America is a diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia. Its territory includes parishes and missions located in mid-United States of America. The diocesan chancery is located in Des Plaines, Illinois. The diocese was founded in 1954 by the Council of Bishops of ROCOR as the Diocese of Chicago and Cleveland. In 1957, the Diocese of Detroit and Flint was merged with the Diocese of Chicago that then was renamed the Diocese of Chicago and Detroit, and in 2007 it was renamed the Diocese of Chicago and Mid-America.
The first ruling hierarch of the diocese was Archbishop Gregory (Borisevitch). The diocese is currently under the leadership of His Eminence, the Most Reverend Archbishop Alypy (Gemanovich). He succeeded to the position of ruling bishop in 1987 after the repose of Abp. Seraphim. On July 29, 2003, Archimandrite Peter (Loukianoff) was consecrated Bishop of Cleveland, vicar of the diocese, at the Cathedral of the Protection of the Mother of God in Des Plaines, Illinois.
