Diocese of Bodbe is founded in V c. In 506 Lazarus Mishop of Bodbe is comemorated at the list of Dvini Church Council participants. Due to having holy tomb of St. Nino in diocese, Bishop of Bodbe had privileges in the Kindgom of Georgia and before it, in the Kingdom of Kakheti as well.

Territory of diocese historically was called Kambechovani and its people “with bad character
