Cosmas (Papachristos) of Aetolia

His Eminence Cosmas (Papachristos) of Aetolia and Acarnania is the Metropolitan of the Metropolis of Aitolia and Akarnania under the jurisdiction of the Church of Greece. He has served as the ruling hierarch of the metropolis since 2005.

Life

Metropolitan Cosmas was born in Skoutesiada, Agrinio in western Greece during 1945. His post secondary education included studies in political science at the Panteion University of Athens and theology at the Aristotle University of Thessalonica, graduating from both.

He entered the Holy Orders in 1974 when he was ordained a deacon with the name Cosmas, followed by ordination as a priest. As a priest, Father Cosmas served as preacher for thirty years in the Metropolis of Aetolia and Acarnania. During this time he published many ecclesiastical articles.

On October 8, 2005, Fr. Cosmas was elected to the episcopate by the Holy Synod of the Church of Greece. He was consecrated Metropolitan of the Metropolis of Aetolia and Acarnania on October 11, 2005.
