Anthimus V of Constantinople

His All-Holiness Anthimus V, (Greek: Ἄνθιμος Ε'), was the Patriarch of Constantinople from 1841 to 1842.

Life

His All-Holiness was born in Raidestos in eastern Thrace, now Tekirdağ in Turkey, at an unknown date, perhaps in the latter decades of the eighteenth century. Having decided on a religious life, Anthimus was elevated to the episcopate and consecrated Metropolitan of Agathoupolis, a position in which he served from 1815 to 1821. In 1821, he was appointed Metropolitan of Anchilaos, on the Black Sea coast in what is now Bulgaria, serving until 1831. From 1831 to 1841, he was Metropolitan of Kyzikos (Cyzicus), located on the southern shore of the Sea of Marmara.

After Patr. Anthimus IV was deposed by Sultan Abdülmecid I, Anthimus V was elected Ecumenical Patriarch in 1841. He died the next year, 1842, and was succeeded by Patriarch Germanus IV.
