His Eminence Theophylaktos of Tripoli

His Eminence, the Most Reverend Theophylaktos (Tzoumerkas) of Tripoli is Metropolitan of the Archdiocese of Tripoli and Exarch of All Lybia, part of the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Alexandria and All Africa.

Life

Konstantinos Tzoumerkas in 1945 was born in Exohi, Nea Pieria, where he completed his basic education. After he finished school he entered the Monastery of Vatopedion on Mount Athos while still young in age. At the monastery he took monastic vows and was tonsured a monk. While at the monastery he was the chief secretary and librarian for the monastery. He continued to pursue his education at the Athonite Ecclesiastical School. He studied at the Theological Faculty of the Aristotelian University from which he holds a degree.

In 1966, he was ordained a deacon, followed by ordination as a priest in 1969. During the following years Fr. Theophylaktos served the Archdioceses of Veria and Naousa, and Larisa and Rhodes.
